Flap Construction

Nov 2003 - Starting the right flap.
Trying out the flap before closing.
Inboard rib with actuator.
Center attach angle backplates.
Outboard angle/brackets.
Underside of center angles.
Outboard rib.
My wing was already in the rotating jig so I was forced to build some simple supports for the trailing edge board.
Closing the right flap on the trailing edge board.
Working on the left flap now...actuator assembly with saftey-wired bolts.
The left flap prior to closing.
Closeup of the left flap actuator rod-end bearing.
Closing the left flap on the trailing edge board.  Notice the small heater to keep the garage up around 75 deg....I should have gotten the combined air conditioner heater when I put in the A/C unit!  Even in Texas it's hard to keep an uninsulated garage at a good working temperature.
Dec 03 - Finally got the left flap closed.  Also hooked up left flap to the torque tube and got both of them running up and down on their own!  See the video of the flaps moving on their own...beware the file is BIG (5.2Mb) so don't try and view it if you only have a phone modem!
